Taxonomy
Part II
(Classification of Living Things)
You have learned how all living things are divided into kingdoms based on what they have in common.
Each kingdom is then split into smaller and smaller groups based on what they have in common.
As each group is split into smaller groups, the organisms are more and more alike.
Each Kingdom is split into smaller groups, called Phyla.
Each Phylum is split into smaller groups called Classes.
Each Class is split into Orders.
Each Order is split into Families.
Each Family is split into Genera.
Each Genus is split into Species.
A Species is a single organism, not a group.
If you can remember this sentence,
you can remember the order of the smaller groups used to classify living things:
KING PHILLIP CAME OVER FOR GRAPE SODA. |
